Abandoned cruise ship to become housing for homeless.

I don't know if the story is true or not, but it's an interesting idea. It also doesn't address a key issue about homelessness.

Time for some blunt talk on homelessness that no one seems to want to admit. Yes, some homeless people are mentally healthy and not addicted to drugs and alcohol. It's horrific that anyone has to deal with homelessness and food insecurity.  But you know what? A large, large, large amount of homeless people are mentally ill, sometimes severely. And a large portion of them are addicted to drugs too.

You can build the most amazing, technologically advance homeless shelter out of a former cruise ship, and an undiagnosed mentally ill man will not live there. In fact, he might try to burn it down because the voices in his head tell him to do so. You can give money to a homeless woman-but if she's addicted to alcohol she won't use to it buy food for her baby. Throwing money at a problem doesn't help it. You need to look much, much deeper.
