Album of the weekend

The Donnas-Spend the Night

The Donnas are fantastic. They combine a classic rock feel with pure and simple fun. It's nothing deep or edgy here-they lack the political edge of the Dead Kennnedys and existential dread of Green Day. I'm not comparing the Donnas to the Ramones-but they have things in common. Simple music, not terribly deep or concerned with the outside world  (this would change with some later Ramones songs, but for the most part they weren't terribly political) and just here for the party. The more I think about it, the more The Donnas are like Kiss.

Spend the Night is their best album and it's the first album released on a major label. You've probably heard "Take it off", it achieved some mainstream success. My favorite song on the album is "Too Bad About Your Girl." You don't have to worry about bad songs on this album-there certainly are some, but the songs are so short that you don't have to wait long until you get to a better song. This album is worth a full download, for sure.
