In our modern society, those who still believe in God and the devil are often thought of to be archaic, and that's exactly what the devil wants them (and us) to believe. While the devil does not have the power to control our behavior and he never has-he does have the power to influence our behavior. Basically by doing exactly what this passage from scripture describes. He will grasp you with his influence and suck you down, if you let him.
