Many LDS think that America was created for them by God. This might surprise you, but I have agreed with them since before I was LDS. I always thought America was different from the rest of the world. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died the same day. July 4th. George Washington survived many things that would have killed a normal man. You can say these things are based on luck, and while unlike many other religious people I believe in luck-but luck has it's limits. This passage reminds me that America is "a land of promise, a land which is choice above all other lands". Perhaps most importantly? The land has been covenanted to us and our children forever.
