Alice Cooper-Billion Dollar Babies
Let's take a moment to hail the Godfather of Glam. All rise and salute.
Okay, now that that's over, let's get down to business. Alice Cooper is the master, and like all great musicians, it's hard to pick just one album that is their best. One way to sort of prove what a good artist you are is to see how many people you've influenced. Like Johnny Cash, musicians of all stripes have been influenced by Alice Cooper. Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and David Byrne of the Talking Heads are two of the more prominent ones who both love this album.
Alice Cooper is the Johnny Cash of glam in some ways. His songs deal with dark subjects and aren't for everyone. Ironically Vincent Furnier himself is a religious man and now, a teetotaler. He only writes and preforms songs about the dark stuff-he lives a pretty quiet and orthodox life. Cooper grew up a Bickertonite, which was a small offshoot of the church that Joseph Smith started.
"No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Billion Dollar Babies" are the two best songs on the track. They really epitomize the glam rock era-simple, easy music combined with lyrics that aren't terribly deep but lean towards the dark side, like a fallen Jedi.
Without Alice Cooper, hair bands and glam rock would be totally different. Most of his albums are great, and this one is one of his best.
