While still being talked about on social media, the Sam Young hunger strike hasn't got much attention outside of Utah. That's mostly because no one outside of the LDS circle cares much about the LDS world. That makes sense. I don't know of many Catholics who care about LDS news, nor many LDS who care about what the Southern Baptist Convention is currently doing.
Still though, anytime someone takes this drastic action to dedicate themselves to a cause, it should be newsworthy. I doubt Sam Young wants to be a martyr. He wants the LDS church to change the way it deals with minors, I don't see him just doing this for attention or because he needs to lose a few pounds.
Like I've mentioned before, you have to give some respect to anyone who cares so much about their cause to stop eating for it.
