You've probably heard the phrase "You can't serve two masters". I know I have. This passage makes me think of that phrase. It also makes me think of the old computer programmer phrase from the 1980's "Garbage in, garbage out." It's true, a bitter fountain can't bring forth good water and a good fountain can't bring forth bitter water. That's an oversimplification of course-a good man can act in a way that isn't good and a bad man can behave correctly. Like the great song by Everlast says, "Seen a rich man beg, seen a good man sin and heard on honest man lie".
A man being a servant of the Devil cannot follow Christ, it's impossible. Since both Christ and the Devil have vastly different interests and different methods-the two will collide. The entire point of this life, if you are a Christian, is to find out to follow Christ and not to follow the Devil. While the roads may be murky sometimes and all the choices are sometimes not as black and white-if you have a solid background it makes it easier to find the right choice.
