This passage tells us what we must have, and builds on each characteristic. First off, and perhaps most importantly, there must be faith. Obviously, belief in God requires faith, and without that, there is nothing else. After faith, there must also be hope-we can hope for faith, we can hope for good things to happen to us, we can even hope that God exists even if we have no faith that He actually does. Finally, this passage also requires that we have charity. It talks about charity, hope and faith even before it talks about morality or behavior. It's an interesting subject that doesn't get brought up much.
All three of these things, charity, hope and faith are required in the kingdom of God. If you don't have any of those traits, it seems like you will have a hard time achieving salvation.
