Are we not all beggars? A famous saying is that Christianity is one beggar telling another beggar about a crust of bread and there is of course some truth to that. After all, part of being a Christian of any denomination means accepting that you are a sinner and not perfect, much like a beggar. So in that case, we are all beggars. And yes, another famous Christian quote is "There but for the grace of God go I" so again, it's never a good thing to forget how quickly God can humble you. Of course we should always do what we can for the poor and hungry.
But that doesn't mean you have to empty your bank account for any cause that comes along. You need to learn how to say no. We've all seen news stories where the beggar at the red light drives a better car than you do and only begs because they know they can beat the system. Yes, that's an exception but it still happens. You also have beggars who beg for money to support a drug or alcohol habit. That's not something you want to really contribute to either, given that it can lead to their deaths.
So yes, we are all beggars and there always is a chance we will be in the future-but we need to remember common sense and not be doormats.
