Many years ago, a waitress in New Jersey named Danya Morales claimed to have been given a nasty little note instead of a tip. You can read about the story here. Of, of course the story has been forgotten and Ms. Morales has faded into the distance, but it's happened once again. You can read about this story as well right here.
We are all quick to jump on any claim of hate speech or discrimination. It makes us feel good about ourselves. We can pat ourselves on the back and talk about how compassionate and tolerant we are. Never do we apply the skepticism we should, simply because that takes away from our sense of superiority. After all, no one would make up a fake claim of discrimination and no one would make up a "hate crime" right?
Turns out some people would.
