Green Day-Dookie
Simply put, this is one of the greatest punk albums of all time. It's achieved mainstream success (everyone had this album, even if you didn't like punk much) and it's achieved critical acclaim in the punk world. It placed Green Day on the map and cemented them as the quintessential punk band of the 1990's. It took the torch from the Ramones and while they aren't as good as them (it can be debated, and yes, it's just my personal opinion) they are one of the only bands post-1990 that can be mentioned in the same breath as them.
This album perfectly captures the post modern generation X attitude of being bored with the present and worried and angsty about the past and future. Imagine existentialism in it's punk form, as close to existentialism as punk can get, anyway. It's like a punk version of "Waiting for Godot".
This album also has "Sassafras Roots" one of my favorite songs by Green Day or any other band really. There might be a song that I ignore here or there, but there are no songs that I dislike. This album is a landmark in both my personal life and in punk music in general. It was great yesterday. it's great now, it'll be great twenty years from now. If Green Day retired immediately after this album and never did anything else, they could still rest easily, knowing that their place in punk will never be forgotten.
