From Lemmy to Alan Rickman to David Bowie-it does seem like a lot of our favorites are passing away.
When Johnny Ramone died I was crushed. Sure I was a grown man who knew he was sick, but it was still a blow. What bothered me to no end (and still really does) is when people try to dismiss or downplay your pain by saying "Oh, well people die every day." or "Why do you care when a celebrity dies?" These are tragically sad and pathetic humans who live without heroes. Confront their obnoxious behavior with a beautiful line from Harry Potter,
“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.”
It is We, the living, who can change the circumstances of our lives. We should mourn the dead, never forget them, but keep on living. Life does continue.
