In a bit of a surprise, it looks like Utah voters have approved Medical Marijuana, even though the church has spoken out against it. I'm in favor of full decriminalization and legalization of marijuana, so I disagree with the political views of the church. In a way, it doesn't matter. The voters approved it, regardless of what the church or I think.
Utah is clearly changing. Salt Lake City has an openly lesbian mayor. The medical marijuana bill passed. I can't imagine these things happening three decades ago, and it's hard to believe that they are happened now. The influence of the church is in decline, maybe due to people leaving the church or people moving to Utah from another state.
